Melissa Rivers appears in court
Melissa Rivers took her first public appearance since being released from New York’s Rikers Island prison on Tuesday.
The 54-year-old mother of “Dr. 90210” faced the media in Manhattan’s criminal court, but instead of facing her many legal woes – including a new charge for allegedly slashing a man in the face with a broken bottle – she spent the afternoon in a dress and high heels sitting on a couch while sipping tea.
Rivers’ lawyer, former prosecutor S. Daniel Morain, told reporters that his client “is not a flight risk,” but that he cannot comment on specifics of the case.
The New York Post reports that she faces charges of attempted murder, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the attack, which occurred last month.
Rivers had been booked into Rikers for allegedly slashing a man’s face with a broken bottle on New Year’s Day. She was released on $100,000 bail after spending about two weeks behind bars.
The “momager”‘s lawyer told the paper that she will fight the new charges.
“She has a lot of things that she is trying to get through, a lot of legal things,” he said. “She is not a flight risk. This is the first time she is appearing in a criminal court.”
